First of is Homesteaders by Alex Rockwell. As long time fan of Alexfrog's strategy analysis of games like Caylus and Puerto Rico, I was eagerly awaiting this game. For me this game really lived up to the hype and after a few plays you can really feel the amount of play testing and balancing that Alex has put into it. There are many paths to victory and there are many hard choices of with auctions to go after and and what to by when you win them. For me this kinda of resource optimization is very fun and i give it 10/10. Me an my 2 friends was able to get 3 mold free editions but I will maybe get the new improved version when it is reprinted this year (All though I love the parchment like game board despite what others think of it).
Second up is Hansa Teutonica witch is my most played game of the year. All tough it is a really deep game best played with 5 or 4 experienced people I have successfully thought this game to beginning players. The reason this works is that you don't have to plan ahead that much if you don't want to and you can get away by concentration on some very simple strategies in the beginning of the game. (Like getting some of the upgrades or collecting as many bonus markers as possible). Really fun and fairly short game with lots of interaction.
The best feature of this game is when you attack someone by displacing their Kontor or Merchant it is often beneficial for them because the get more Kontors into play. So the
Third up we have Dominant Species that is a beats of a game. Only after a few plays can I see that there is a lot of depth in this game and you have a lot of agonizing choices every turn to make.
Runner up would be Navegador witch is very interesting and well balanced game with lots of difficult decisions thanks to the Rondel. This together with Imperial is definitely the best games with the Rondel.
Other games I liked but did not quite make it as top 3 is Wars of the Roses, Middle Earth Quest and Egizia.
I also want to mention Vinhos witch I actually got last year but haven't been playing until this year. This is also a strong contender for my top 10 games of all time.
As far as computer games go 2010 was the year of Starcraft. I have been playing mostly 2v2 with my friend at work during the lunch hour. But I have also been watching a lot of Starcraft E-sport online especially from Husky
